Welcome to Darien
Darien is a small, picturesque, coastal community on Long Island Sound, less than one hour from New York City by car or train and easily accessible to all metro airports, as well as the mountains, streams and villages of upper New England. Its graceful shoreline of sandy beaches, rocky headlands, rivers and tidal estuaries offers all the pleasures and resources of sea and sun, while its inland region is filled with rolling woods, green fields and freshwater ponds.
Today, a strong sense of community exists among the 19,000 or so people living within Darien's 14.9 square miles filled with scores of friendly neighborhoods, excellent public schools (expenditures per student among the highest in the nation), two town beaches, two train stations, nearly 205 acres of park and recreational facilities, a state-of-the-art environmental education center, a renowned indoor ice skating rink, an impressive baseball park, a well-respected equestrian center and homes that enjoy an outstanding resale potential.
